卫理毕理学院 发展全人教育的本地高等学府
座落在诗巫莉莉路的卫理毕理学院创建于1967年，起初创立时是一所本地私立中学。1991 正式成功转型成为学院，开始提供会计文凭、商业管理文凭、电脑科学文凭的课程。毕理学院简称“MPI”，是卫理公会砂拉越华人年议会属下的一间高等学府，位于诗巫莉莉路。

院长许钧凯：教育可以改变社会
许钧凯院长说，毕理学院从一开始到现在的理念都没有变，他们始终认为，只要能改变一个年轻人，就能间接改变他的家庭，甚至对社会带来变化及影响。“本地人，尤其是福州华人非常看重教育，教会当初也是秉承创建教会就会连办教育一样，所以毕理当初就是从民办中学开始。”
他说，毕理学院的学生多来自中下收入的家庭。而毕理学院提供了一个实惠及良好的成长环境，让他们能够获得接受高教的机会。在获得Diploma之后，可以有多方面的选择，不论是出国升学、或留在本地大专、又或进入职场、甚至自行创业，都可为他们的将来做好准备。唯他感叹，过去多数是学生自己本身来询问关于升学的资料，但近年来父母亲反而占了大多数。似乎多是父母在打点孩子的升学的途径和选择。
他认为，年轻人对教育冷感是一件很悲哀的事，有的甚至没有升学的想法，希望可以尽快投入社会去打工赚钱。他们没有去思考自己应该如何去承担未来，未来人生60年的规划应该是怎样的，自己又是否具备解决问题的能力等。
“一纸文凭代表的不只是学历、知识而已，而是整个的思考能力、应变能力和解决问题的能力。即便未来在职场上的工作和所读的科系没有直接关系，可是对于个人的思考、思维，以及分析能力许多都是在大学时期磨练出来的。“
许院长透露，毕理学院的优势在于提供严谨的学习环境与教学，注重全人教育、品格塑造，推动学生在智、体、灵、群的全面发展。毕理的学费相对比较廉宜，也是大部分家庭可以负担得起的，当然院方也透过助学金、贷学金等，帮助贫困的学生继续升学。那些学习成绩优异的学生甚至可以最高获得奖学金，学费全免。
毕理学院所栽培的学生都在社会发光发热，从会计系、商业系、电脑科学系开始，延伸到幼教系、社工系、等，都是按着社会的需要，逐步开办和推广，栽培出社会迫切需要的职场新鲜人，来投入社会服务大众，让社区可以变得更完善、美好！

王婉淇，民都鲁，Degree幼教课程第一年
王婉淇会来诗巫毕理学院继续升学的原因是通过教会里的长辈推荐，再加上她本身很喜欢小朋友，在兴趣以及契机之下就来到毕理学院。一开始她认为毕理学院的幼教课程只可以学的一些如何管理或规划课程，但是在持续上课的过程中，她发现老师会不断鼓励他们如何做有主题性（Thematic）或项目式学习（Project Based Learning）的课程来教导小朋友学习知识，利用这些教学方式，能让小朋友更了解全方位的知识，而不只是单一的教学，这可以让小朋友在之后的生活上与所学的知识更有连结。除此之外，毕理学院也在幼教课程中提供额外的学习机会，例如讲座会、训练等等，让他们更实际学习到幼教的工作。

她也是通过教会的长辈介绍来毕理学院。她认为在与其他学院对比之下，MPI的学费更占优势，而且毕理学院已经是ACCA的GOLD APPROVED LEARNING PARTNER（金牌级认可的学习合作伙伴），所以总体综合下来，到毕理学院读会计课程的性价比比较高。她也表示跟其他大型规模的学院相比之下他们会有更多机会展现他们的潜力，特别是在社团里，这可帮助他们可以更好的提升自己的各项技能，例如团队精神、领导能力、策划活动的能力、沟通能力等。另外，毕理学院的教师们也具有非常高的水准，教师们的相关工作经验很足够，因此在上课的时候经常分享在职场上遇到问题，并且还教导他们如何解决，学生们也能从中学习。
江邦耀，商业管理课程
他中学过后就立志要读商业管理再加上有基督信仰背景，所以基督信仰氛围很好的毕理学院成为了他的首选。在上课的过程中，教师们非常乐于与学生们沟通，因此教师们在学习上给予他很大程度的帮助和建议。他也说道，毕理学院把他塑造成一名能够有独立思考、批评性思考和自我学习的成年人，而这几项特质恰好能帮助他之后在社会上立足时，随时拥有危机感和对专业的尊敬，确保不会被社会淘汰，在此他非常感恩与感谢毕理学院。
他们对于毕理学院的学校环境都是一致好评，虽然没有其他学府一样大，但是毕理学院的环境优美、设备齐全，尤其是图书馆的资源应有尽有，对学生来说真的很重要。除此之外，学院的氛围也充满人情味，院长和教师们也不断给予他们最大的帮助。因此在访问的最后，他们都表示会推荐给其他身边正在或即将升学的人来毕理学院继续就读。
A Holistic Approach to Higher Education: Methodist Pilley Institute
Methodist Pilley Institute (MPI), the oldest private higher learning institution in Sarawak, was founded in 1967. At the beginning, it was only a private secondary school. Later in 1991, it was converted into a college offering diploma and degree courses in accounting, business management, and computer science. Located at Jalan Lily, it is an institution under the Sarawak Chinese Annual Conference of the Methodist Church in Malaysia.
MPI started out with only a dozen students. In its prime, it grew to more than one thousand students in 2017. Over the years, it has trained thousands of students to join various industries. Hii King Kai, the principal of MPI, officially took office on 1st January 2017. He has been serving in MPI since 2001.
Education can transform a Society
Mr. Hii shared that MPI has been holding to the same philosophy since the beginning. They have always believed that if MPI can change the life of one young person, he can bring blessings to his family, which will in turn make a difference to the society.
“The locals, especially the Foochows, value education very much. The church also insisted that the establishment of a church should be combined with education. This is the reason why MPI started out as a private secondary school.”
He said that most of their students come from families with lower-middle incomes. After they graduate from secondary schools, they have an opportunity to get a Diploma from MPI before they continue degree studies overseas or locally, start work or their own business. Previously, most of them would take the initiative to find out information on continuing their studies. “But in recent years, I discovered that most who come to ask about the courses are parents, and they are also the one who select the school and course for their children.”
He is concerned that the prospect of pursuing higher education has become less desirable for many young people. They prefer to enter the workforce as soon as possible without thinking whether they are equipped with the necessary skills for future career development and what their plans are for the next sixty years of their lives.
“A certificate isn’t just a piece of paper. It goes beyond theoretical knowledge. It represents your critical thinking skills, adaptability skills, and problem-solving skills. Even though the job you find in the future could be unrelated to your degree, all the important personal skills can be honed during college studies.”
Mr. Hii emphasised that MPI provides a rigorous learning environment and uses a holistic approach for students to develop their skills, knowledge, characters, and aptitudes. Their tuition fees are relatively more economical and affordable for most of the families too. They also support the students by providing grants and loans. Students with excellent academic performance can also apply for scholarships.
From accounting, business management, computer science to early childhood education and social work, MPI has nurtured many talents to serve the communities in need and make the society a better place.

Connie Wong, Bintulu, Diploma in Early Childhood Education Year 1
Connie loves children. Recommended by an elder in church, she enrolled herself in Diploma in Early Childhood Education programme. She initially thought it was only about lesson planning but then realised it was much more than that. It is about guiding the children to apply what they have learnt in their real life by creating thematic or project based learning lessons for them. MPI also provides practical field works, relevant seminars and workshops to prepare the students for a career as an educator.
Shirley Hii, Miri, ACCA Diploma in Accounting Professional Level
An elder from Shirley’s church recommended her to study at MPI. MPI is a Gold Approved Learning Partner, in comparison with other colleges, MPI’s tuition fee is a lot cheaper. She also shared that in a smaller college like MPI, students have more opportunities to discover their potentials through participation in extracurricular activities, particularly team skills, leadership skills, event planning, and communication skills etc. The lecturers are also very experienced in their own profession. They often share issues they encountered in the workplace so students can be better prepared for a career as a professional accountant.

Kong was determined to study business management after graduating from secondary school. Coming from a Chistianity background, MPI naturally became his first choice to pursue higher education. The lecturers are very helpful and provide students with valuable advice whenever they need them. He received a lot of support from them during his course of study. He is grateful that MPI nurtured him into a person with critical thinking and self-learning skills, enabling him to gain a foothold in the society.
Although MPI is not as large as other institutions, it is well-equipped with many facilities and library resources. The Board, the Principal, and lecturers are also very committed to creating a positive and inspiring learning environment for their students. At the end of the interview with the students, they all mentioned that they will recommend MPI to those who are seeking higher education.
